Why Have Economic Incentives Failed to Convince Farmers to Adopt Drip Irrigation in Southwestern Iran?

Sustainable water usage is an important global concern and urgent priority, especially in dryland regions such as Iran. The Iranian government actively addressing the challenge of scarcity by encouraging farmers to adopt new application technology. Its main element decrease consumption encourage irrigation systems, particular drip irrigation. However, despite benefits technologies availability generous subsidies, adoption rates improved technology remain critically low among farmers. Therefore, this study seeks determine what limiting uptake While it well known that acceptance ultimately depends on multiple interrelated factors, we examine those factors affecting farmers’ from three theoretical perspectives literature: socio-economic characteristics, social capital, characteristics. A cross-sectional survey was undertaken Behbahan district Khuzestan province southwest sample comprises 174 who adopted region 100 non-adopters were located same region. Discriminant analysis reveals a approach strongest model predict area, followed models technical capital. These results can help agricultural extension agents policy-makers design appropriate effective strategies facilitate at increasing rate.
